Colony of Kingella kingae bacteria that has been growing on a medium of sheep’s blood agar (SBA), for 24 hours at a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius. K. kingae is a Gram-negative coccobacillus that is part of the normal flora of children's throats. It can occasionally cause invasive disease, primarily osteomyelitis (bone infection) and septic arthritis in young children, bacteremia (infection of the blood) in infants, and endocarditis (infection of the heart lining) in school-aged children. | |
