Carved limestone object, discovered in Malta. This carved slab of globigerina limestone has a roughly worked decorative surface. The slab is divided by various incised radial lines into segments. Four of these segments are filled with incised pointed stars. One has an incision which possibly represents a crescent moon or a boat. This artefact could have been associated with the astronomical movements of stars or the alignment of the island's temples. It was found at the Tal-Qadi site, which dates from around 3200 BC. Photographed at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta, Malta. | |
