British bacteriologist Almroth Edward Wright (1861-1947) developed the first vaccine against typhoid fever whilst working in the army medical school. From 1902 he worked at St Mary's Hospital in London, where he became professor of pathology. He was knighted in 1906. Swiss-US physician Arnold Carl Klebs (1870-1943) specialised in the study of tuberculosis. The library he donated to Yale University in 1939 included over 3000 texts on the disease. Klebs was the son of famous bacteriologist Edwin Klebs. Photographed in June 1928. | |
