British archaeologist Daisy Garrod and colleagues. At centre is British archaeologist Dorothy Annie Elizabeth ('Daisy') Garrod (1892-1968) with two unidentified male colleagues in 1937. Garrod was the first woman to do research on palaeolithic humans, the first woman to hold a professorship at Cambridge University, and the co-leader of an important archaeological exploration of Mount Carmel during the mid-1930s. This photograph was taken by Fremont Davis (1915-1977) at the International Symposium on Early Man, at the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, in March 1937. | |
