Weill and Nielsen, French physicist and US engineer. At centre is US engineer John Phillip Nielsen (born 1911), head of the metallurgical laboratory at New York University's College of Engineering. He is demonstrating a device called a dilatometer to visiting French physicist and engineer R. Adrienne Weill (born 1903). Weill, a student of Marie Curie's, had been evacuated to England during World War II and worked at Cambridge University where she became a friend and mentor to British chemist and X-ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin. | |
