Bishop's Cap Cavern palaeontology expedition, 1920s. From left to right: US museum osteologist J. W. Lytle, US piano teacher Margaret Badenoch Vear (1890-1973), and US museum palaeontologist Chester Stock (1892-1950). All three were members of a Los Angeles Museum Expedition to Bishop's Cap Cavern, New Mexico, USA. Lytle and Stock both worked at the Los Angeles Museum, and Stock also worked at the California Institute of Technology. In 1930, Vear married local mining engineer and explorer Roscoe Platt Conkling (1877-1971) who took this photograph. The marriage took place in the nearby Conkling Cave, and the two worked together on many research projects in the area. | |
