Ruby Hirose (1904-1960), US biochemist and bacteriologist. Hirose carried out research into serums and antitoxins at the William S. Merrell laboratories in Ohio, USA. In 1940, she was among ten women recognized by the American Chemical Society for accomplishments in chemistry. She later made major contributions to the development of vaccines against infantile paralysis. Here, she is shown working on remedies for hay fever, using alum to increase its effectiveness. | |
