Cynognathus, illustration. This extinct cynodont therapsid lived during the Middle Triassic, 247 to 237 million years ago. Its head was around 30 centimetres long, with jaws that contained the sharp teeth of a predator. It was about the size of a modern badger. Therapsids, which evolved from reptiles, included the animals that later evolved into mammals. | |
