Stair Hole, Dorset, illustration. The Stair Hole cliff near Lulworth, Dorset, England, consists of folded layers (strata) of Jurassic rock. Originally deposited in horizontal beds, these strata have been folded as a result of the collision between the African and European crustal plates. The same collision also formed the Alps mountain range. | |
