Gangrenous foot in diabetes. Close-up of the gangrenous foot of a man with diabetes who has developed peripheral vascular disease. Ulcers are a possible complication of diabetes, a condition in which the patient is unable to metabolise blood sugars properly. Diabetics often develop ulcers on the feet due to inadequate blood supply or neuropathy (nerve damage) caused by the disease. In severe cases, the ulcers can become gangrenous necessitating removal of the affected region. Photographed in India. | |
