Amputated toes in diabetes. Close-up of the feet of a patient with diabetes, with partial amputation of some of the toes. The patient has peripheral neuropathy. Ulcers are a possible complication of diabetes, a condition in which the patient is unable to metabolise blood sugars properly. Diabetics often develop ulcers on the feet due to inadequate blood supply or neuropathy (nerve damage) caused by the disease. In severe cases, the ulcers can become gangrenous necessitating removal of the affected region. Photographed in India. | |
