Laser design of Blended Wing Body aircraft. Green laser light shining over a model of a Boeing Blended Wing Body (BWB) aircraft. This is a greener, quieter airplane design under development, aiming for a smoother air flow over the wings. This will mean less fuel will be needed to power the aircraft. The technique used is called particle image velocimetry, with laser light bouncing off tracer particles and cameras recording the movement of those particles. This research is being carried out in a subsonic tunnel by engineers at NASA's Langley Research Center, Hampton, Virginia, USA. Photographed in 2016. | |
