ACCESS jet aircraft biofuel research. Test flight by a DC-8 jet aircraft to study the effects of the use of biofuels. This NASA study involved the aircraft's four engines burning either JP-8 jet fuel or a 50-50 blend of JP-8 and a renewable alternative fuel produced from Camelina plant oil. The conclusions were that the use of the biofuels reduced the amount of pollution produced. This study was part of ACCESS I and ACCESS II (Alternative Fuel Effects on Contrails and Cruise Emissions Study), a series of test flights that took place in 2013 and 2014. This flight took place over California, USA. | |
