Bertha Parker (1907-1978), Native American archeologist, holding atlatl darts found in Gypsum Cave, Nevada, USA. Parker is considered one of the first female Native American archaeologists. She had no formal training or university education, but had worked on excavations with her archaeologist father as a child. She made a number of important discoveries, including the skull of an extinct ground sloth at Gypsum Cave, the pueblo site of Scorpion Hill, and site of Corn Creek, Nevada. Photographed in 1930. |
