Abby Howe Turner (1875-1957), American physiologist and zoologist. Turner graduated from Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts, USA, in 1896. She spent most of her career at Mount Holyoke as a laboratory assistant and teacher, establishing the Department of Physiology in 1922. She also undertook graduate studies at a number of other institutions, including Harvard Medical School. She received her PhD from Radcliffe College, Massachusetts, in 1926. She is best known for her work on colloid osmotic pressure and circulatory reactions to gravity. She kept extensive data on the physiology of Mount Holyoke students. | |
