Spinal nerve ganglion. Coloured light micrograph of a section through a whole spinal nerve ganglion (right), a node of nerve cells located just outside the spinal cord at the point where it is joined by the spinal nerve (left). This collection of nerve cells (neurones, red) is responsible for processing sensory information or for coordinating impulses from other neurones. Each neurone is surrounded by flattened support cells called glial cells. Bundles of nerve fibres (yellow) are also seen. Magnification: x100 when printed 10cm wide. | |
