Bacterial culture from raw chicken, scanning electron micrograph (SEM). A study of raw chicken breast meat found that most had some bacterial contamination. Many were contaminated with pathogenic bacteria such as Campylobacter and Salmonella species. Enterococcus species and Escherichia coli bacteria were also common. In addition, almost half of the samples tested positive for at least one type of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria (resistant to three or more antibiotics).
