Human computers at NACA and NASA. View of a typical computing area from the early days of NASA and its predecessor NACA. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was founded in 1958, formed from the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), which had been established in 1915. NACA and NASA used human computers in aerospace and flight research to transcribe raw data from recording equipment. The women would then use slide rules and electric calculators to reduce the data to standard engineering units. | |
