Papuan cuttlefish (Sepia papuensis) amongst coral on a reef. Cuttlefish are cephalopod molluscs that are able to change colour according to their surroundings by dilating or contracting pigment cells called chromatophores. Rhythmic bands of colour are quickly pulsed along the body and arms, possibly to mesmerise and distract its prey. Cuttlefish feed on small molluscs, crabs, shrimp and fish.
