Little tern conservation fieldwork. Researcher using vernier calipers to measuring the beak length of a little tern (Sternula albifrons) as part of a coastal protection scheme during this bird's breeding season. This seabird breeds in coastal areas and waterways in temperate and tropical regions of Europe and Asia. Little terns are a protected species, and electric fence enclosures are being used in this area as part of animal conservation work to protect them from predators such as foxes. Photographed in June 2016, in Denbighshire, Wales. | |
