Mythical sirens seducing sailors. In Homer's Odyssey, the hero of the Trojan war Odysseus sails past the island of the sirens so that he can hear their song. The sirens however lure unwary sailors off course to their death by their sweet singing. Odysseus therefore stops his crews ears with wax and instruct them tie him to the mast so that he alone may hear the song of the sirens, yet not be shipwrecked on their island. | |
