Heart transplant. Coloured frontal X-ray of the chest of a 24-year-old woman who was born with congenital heart defects and who has had a heart transplant. The congenital defects included transposition of the great vessels (TGV) and ventricular septal defect (VSD). The patient had operations as a child to treat these conditions, but as an adult has had a heart transplant. This was done due to right ventricular hypertrophy which developed progressively since childhood, resulting in progressive heart failure and cardiogenic shock. Here, a contrast medium has been injected to check the proper functioning of the transplanted heart. | |
