Vera Charles (1877-1954), American mycologist. Charles studied at Cornell University and became a scientist at Bureau of Plant Industry, U.S. Department of Agriculture. Charles and her lab were the first to report and categorize potato wart disease. She often worked with Flora Wambaugh Patterson, another mycologist. Charles conducted research on the fungal pathogens of North American insects, and she was also an expert on the identification of edible and poisonous fungi. | |
