Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Spider silk from the nest of a black and yellow mud dauber wasp (Sceliphron caementarium). This wasp builds a nest of mud and stocks it with living spiders among which it lays its eggs. The trapped spiders spin silk around the wasp egg cases. When the eggs hatch the new wasps consume the spiders. Magnification: x200 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres. | |
