Light micrograph (LM) of Ibuprofen crystals. Ibuprofen is a popular a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve the symptoms of arthritis, primary dysmenorrhoea, pyrexia and acute or chronic pain where there is an inflammatory component. It is widely marketed under various trade names including Advil, Motrin and Nuprin. Ibuprofen is used widely as a popular analgesic for the relief of headache (including migraine); for general pain conditions including those that arise from various injuries (such as sporting injuries); illnesses (such as influenza, shingles, gout), and post-operative pain. It is believed to work through inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX); thus inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. Magnification: x40 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres. | |
