Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Kocuria rosea, Gram-positive, aerobic, coccoid prokaryote. Kocuria rosea (formerly known as Micrococcus roseus) is an actinobacterium that causes opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients, including catheter related bacteraemia. Kocuria sp. are a non-motile bacteria that occurs in freshwater, saltwater and in soil environments. A strain of Kocuria rosea has been show to have keratinolytic activity and thus degrades feathers.
