Labrys wisconsinensis is a newly identified budding prosthecate bacterium from Lake Michigan. It is the first member of the genus Labrys that is able to grow anaerobically. It is a small rod-shaped bacterium that occurs singly or in pairs. L. wisconsinensis forms large amounts of extracellular mucilage and also is a capsule forming strain.
