Early television technology, 1920s. US inventor and cinema pioneer Charles Francis Jenkins (1867-1934, left), with his radio-vision invention. This device is attached to a normal radio receiving set, and projects a miniature motion picture into the screen on the wall. Jenkins carried out the first public television demonstration in the USA on 13 June 1925. His television used mechanical rather than electronic technologies. Jenkins was granted over 400 patents during his lifetime for diverse inventions including improvements to the internal combustion engine, a sight-seeing bus and radio-vision. This photographed was taken in 1925 by Harris and Ewing at Jenkins's laboratory in Washington DC, USA. | |
