Pancreatic cancer research. Pancreatic tissue with multi-colour lineage tracing (a technique known as 'confetti') showing that many metastases arise from heterogeneous cell clusters rather than the outgrowth of single cells. This phenomenon (tumour heterogeneity) is where tumours are made up of many different types of cancer cells that often have unique genetic mutations. It is thought that this phenomenon affects the ability of cancer cells to metastasize (spread) or develop resistance to therapeutic agents. This tissue is from a mouse model of pancreatic cancer. | |
