Margaret Dorothy Foster (1895-1970),US chemist. Foster studied at George Washington University and American University,obtaining her doctorate from the latter in 1936. She worked for the United States Geological Survey from 1918,where she worked on the analysis of natural waters. She was selected to work on the Manhattan Project,the vast research and industrial complex that developed the atomic bomb during the Second World War. After the war,she worked on the chemistry of clays and similar rock types and associated minerals. Foster's scientific memberships included the American Chemical Society and the Mineralogical Society of America. Photographed on 4 October 1919 | |
