Albert Henry Stanley (1874-1948),British-US railway manager,director and chairman. Born Albert Henry Knattriess,he rose through the ranks at the Detroit Street Railways Company (a horse-drawn tram system) and by 1907 he was general manager of the Public Service Corporation of New Jersey. He agreed to move to London to work for the Underground Electric Railways Company of London (UERL),managing it from 1910 to 1933. After a period of politics (MP and President of the Board of Trade),he returned to UERL (what is now London Underground) and oversaw its inter-war rise to become the pre-eminent example of public transport as the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB).
