Fruit bat feeding on a banana plant. Short-nosed fruit bat (Cynopterus sphinx) feeding on nectar from a banana flower (Musa sp.). It plays a vital role in pollinating such plants, enabling them to reproduce. Pollen is seen adhering to the fur on the bat's head. This is a small flying fox,a type of fruit bat, found in tropical forests from India to Malaysia. Feeding at night on fruit and nectar,it uses eyesight and smell to locate its food, rather than the echolocation used by some bats. C. sphinx is known to chew leaves to construct tent- like roosting shelters, which can also be harems in which a male bat roosts with several females | |
