Siamang (Hylobates syndactylus) hanging from a tree. The siamang is a tree-dwelling gibbon that lives in family groups,each with a specific territory. The territories are marked with shrill cries that resemble barking. The siamang feeds on fruit,leaves and other plant matter. It often hangs by one arm whilst reaching its food and moves by swinging through the trees (brachiation). A fully grown siamang weighs up to 13 kilograms and has a body length of about 90 centimetres. The siamang is found in Sumatra and Malaysia | |
