Dolly cloning technique (fifth of 5 pictures). Light micrograph of a sheep egg fused with an udder cell during cloning of "Dolly",the first sheep cloned from an adult cell. The egg cell reveals a nucleus (upper centre). The nucleus is from an udder cell. The egg cell had its nucleus removed, and an udder cell was injected into the egg. A spark of electricity then fused these cells into one and an embryo will be stimulated to grow. The embryo is implanted into the womb of a surrogate sheep. Research conducted by Dr Wilmut at the Roslin Institute,Edinburgh,Scotland. (see photos G285/037,G285/038,G285/039,G285/040) | |
