This sagittal T2-weighted MR image of the cervical spine shows a distracted horizontal fracture through the C6 vertebral body (red arrow),including the flowing osteophytes along the anterior vertebral bodies and anterior longitudinal ligament. Chance fractures involve all 3 columns of the spine and result from flexion-distraction injuries. They commonly occur at the thoracolumbar junction and often associated with a seat belt injury in car accidents. An epidural hematoma is present (yellow arrow) | |
