The Red-spotted Toad ( Bufo punctatus) is a small toad species,3.7 to 7.5 cm long. They are found primarily in desert and rocky regions and prairie grasslands, usually near a source of permanent water or dampness from sea level to 1.8 kilometers. This is the only North American toad that lays eggs one at a time, not in long strings,on bottoms of pools. Breeding occurs from April to September and is initiated by rainfall. Their range is from central Texas west into southeastern California and south into Mexico. This individual was photographed in Baja,Mexico | |
