The Red-spotted Toad ( Bufo punctatus) is a small toad species,3.7 to 7.5 cm long. They are found primarily in desert and rocky regions and prairie grasslands,usually near a source of permanent water or dampness from sea level to 6,000 ft. This is the only North American toad that lays eggs one at a time,not in long strings,on bottoms of pools. Breeding occurrs from April to September and is initiated by rainfall.
