Flint drinking water protester with a baby bottle of Flint tap water. Residents of Flint,Michigan,USA,marched to the city's water treatment plant to demand the rebuilding of the city's drinking water supply. A drinking water crisis in Flint started in April 2014 when the water supply became contaminated with lead that was leached from old water pipes after the supply was switched to more corrosive water from the Flint River. Elevated levels of lead in the blood caused health problems in thousands of children. A public health state of emergency was declared and the original water supply restored in October 2015.
