Water pipe construction. Segments of pipe to be used by the Karegnondi Water Authority to construct a 113-kilometre-long pipeline to bring water from Lake Huron to Flint,Michigan,USA. A drinking water crisis in the city of Flint started in April 2014 when the water supply became contaminated with lead from old pipes after the supply was switched to more corrosive water from the Flint River. Elevated levels of lead in the blood caused health problems in thousands of children. A public health state of emergency was declared and the original water supply restored in October 2015,along with plans for a new supply. Photographed on 19 February 2016 | |
