Oil from a storage tank (left) enters the burner-boiler section where it is burnt,with waste gases and smoke exiting through the chimney. The heat from the burning oil boils water in a steam drum (cylindrical). The resulting steam is piped to the turbines (lower centre) where electricity is generated. The steam is condensed (bottom) and piped back to the steam drum. Excess heat and steam is vented through a cooling tower (lower right).
