Natural gas from storage tanks (left) enters the burner-boiler section where it is burnt,with waste gases and smoke exiting through the chimney. The heat from the burning gas boils water in a steam drum (cylindrical). The resulting steam is piped to the turbines (lower centre) where electricity is generated. The steam is condensed (bottom) and piped back to the steam drum. Excess heat and steam is vented through cooling towers (lower right).
