Little bee eater (Merops pusillus) perched on a branch. This is a tiny member of the bee eater family (family Meropidae),with a mass of only 15 grams and a length of only 18 centimetres. It is found in south-eastern Africa in bushveld, open woodland and savanna habitats. It lives in pairs and small groups, nesting in a small burrow or an abandoned aardvark hole. Bee eaters are related to kingfishers, and despite the name they feed on a variety of insects. They get most of the water they need from the insects they catch and rarely drink.
