Palmate newt (Triturus helveticus) with snails on moist soil. This newt is found in water or moist regions in Britain and much of northern and western Europe. It lays its eggs in water,but adults can be found away from water,provided it is not too dry. The palmate newt feeds on insects,plankton,tadpoles and,occasionally,other newts. It can reach a length of around ten centimetres,and an age of up to ten years. It is an endangered species in the UK,and is protected by law | |
