Rana catesbeiana. Head of the North American bull- frog Rana catesbeiana, peering out from between leaves of grass. Its large eyes are positioned on the top of the head in order to see above the water surface when its body is submerged. Rana catesbeiana is a green camouflaged bullfrog,in which the males are highly territorial within their chosen ponds. The males carry out ritualized fights, standing on their back legs and embracing each other. Vocalization allows them to maintain strict distances apart. This bullfrog is distributed from central U.S.A. across the east coast of North America. Photographed in British Columbia,Canada | |
