Harlequin ghost pipefish (Solenostomus paradoxus) or ornate ghost pipefish. These uncommon fish are found in pairs or alone around coral reefs or floating plants. Their colouration and appearance helps them to mimic corals, camouflaging them from predators. They inhabit coastal waters in the tropical Indo-Pacific region, reaching lengths of about 10 centimetres. They feed on crustaceans and small fish, sucking them up with their tube-like mouths. Photographed at Richelieu Rock, near Thailand,in the Andaman Sea | |
