The bases of the long,slender antennae (purple,upper frame),which can consist of as many as 50 individual segments,can be seen. The earwig is a nocturnal omnivore which feeds on carrion,live insect prey and flower petals. It possesses mandibles (jaws,brown,upper centre) designed for biting and cutting its food.
