Baird Televisor, early television set. One commercial form of the Baird Televisor for home use. Behind the grill on the left is a loud speaker. The image of the head and shoulders of the distant speaker (or singer) appears on the screen at right. The Baird Televisor was the first fully operational television set. However, this mechanical device only had 30 lines of display and soon the BBC demanded higher definition. Baird's attempt to compete produced a semi-electronic,240-line device. However, this was quickly superseded by Marconi's 405-line,fully-electronic television set,and in 1937 Baird's system was dropped | |
