Copper mine. Disused opencast copper mine in Anglesea,Wales. Once the largest copper mine in the world, with workings from the Bronze Age through Roman times to the 18th century, this mine was abandoned late in the 19th century. The water on this site has an acid pH of 2.0 and a presence of tin, lead and gold. Researchers near the water edge are taking water samples to study acid-loving extremophile bacteria which thrive in these harsh conditions | |
