BabyBot robot in its laboratory. The BabyBot is a humanoid robot developed at the LIRA-Lab at the University of Genoa,in Italy. The BabyBot project, started in 1996,is investigating sensory and control systems, how they interact, and what this can tell us about human brains and how they develop. The eyes (yellow) have cameras designed to collect light in a similar way to human eyes (collecting more light from the focus area than the surrounding area). The head has gyroscopes to stabilise it and allow compensatory eye movements. Neural networks allow visual identification of targets. All this allows the robot to reach and grasp with its hand (lower left),which includes tactile sensors and a 'grasp reflex' | |
