NASA's future manned launcher. Computer artwork of the rocket that will be used to launch NASA's future lunar-landing crew into space. The crew are in a capsule (white) above a single space shuttle solid rocket booster. On top of the capsule is an escape rocket that will blast the crew away if there are any launch problems. The crew capsule will dock with the lunar lander, which is launched beforehand, and then head to the Moon. NASA's plans to send manned missions to explore the Moon's surface were announced on 19 September 2005. The first mission is scheduled for 2018. The program is predicted to cost $104 billion. The last Moon landing was NASA's Apollo 17 mission in 1972 | |
